The James Marriott Memorial Fund at UCL

Dr James Marriott was an outstanding practitioner educated at UCL Department of Chemical Engineering. To uphold his legacy, James’ parents and wife established an endowment in support of PhD students.

James’ PhD research focussed on modelling and optimisation of membrane systems, and his insights and expertise in the field provided the basis of research which continues to influence the sector in the UK and around the world. His research papers are still some of the most cited papers in the area.

As the Department of Chemical Engineering approaches its Centenary, it is humbled to partner with the Marriott family to empower young chemical engineers with the same spirit of excellence, innovation and commitment as embodied by James.

The James Marriott Memorial Fund will be active for at least two decades and is aimed at PhD students who may be unable to travel due to limited financial means, enabling them to thrive in their studies and unlock access to new opportunities.

Through this Fund, we aim to celebrate James’ achievements and inspire future generations to pursue their dreams in engineering."
