Public Voices Fellowship 2024/2025 – funding call

Public Voices is a new initiative that aims to promote diverse thought leadership by empowering underrepresented academic communities at UCL and partner institutions in Africa.

The Public Voices Fellowship opens on Monday, 7 October, and will close on Sunday, 10 November 2024.

For this first iteration of Public Voices, the programme will partner with Wits University in South Africa. The initiative is designed to equip underrepresented researchers with essential media, communications and public policy skills to influence both local and global discussions and facilitate professional development.

Public voices will provide funding for a number of fellowships based at both UCL and Wits. The fellowships will provide media and policy training to enhance researchers’ ability to effectively communicate their research in key media outlets and public discourse. This will include hands-on experience through collaborative workshops and masterclasses hosted at UCL and Wits as well as connections to external media and policy organisations where possible.

Value and duration

  • UCL has allocated a total of £30, 000 to fund up to six, 9-month fellowships, with each fellowship valued at £5, 000.
  • The fellowship will cover associated costs, including in-person residencies, accommodation, return flights, visa and living expenses.
  • The fellowship runs from December 2024 – August 2025. All spending will need to have taken place by 31 July 2025.
