We know that young people who have cancer are more likely to have other difficulties like anxiety or low mood.
We want to find the best way of treating such problems which can affect the young person's overall health.
We work at the UCL Institute of Child Health, Great Ormond Street Hospital and University College Hospital MacMillan Cancer Centre.
To find out whether these resources will be useful for you, you will be asked to complete a few questionnaires about how you are feeling and return these to us.
These questionnaires will take up to 20 minutes to complete.
You will use some "self-help" resources based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) strategies. These go through strategies that research has shown to be helpful in reducing symptoms of low mood and distress in young people.
We will ask you to send any completed worksheets back to us so that we can develop the resources further.
A mentor will be available to help you with the resources if you would like. This can be done over the phone, email or Skype.
We will keep a record of the contact you have with mentors to make sure that everyone is receiving the same level of support. These are just for us and will be kept confidential.
We want to hear about your experience of taking part in our project, so that we can improve the programme for others. We are interested in what you thought went well as well as anything we could be doing better. This will help us make changes and improve to ensure we are doing things in the best way for the young people and families we are working with.
We will ask you to complete a feedback form after each module. We will also like to ask you about how you found using the website. You don't have to speak to us if you don't want to.
This website uses 'modules' which contain strategies to help you help yourself. These modules can be done in any order that you like.
Each module will contain worksheetst to help you practise the strategies in the module. These are for yourself, but you can share them with your mentor if you like. if you would like a mentor to help give you feedback on these worksheets, please contact us.
You will also be asked to complete a distress thermometer at the beginning
and the end of each module. Please send these back to your mentor or to us directly:
