New paper published on using electronic health records in ambulances

17 May 2017

Ambulance Today is the UK’s leading publication for ambulance services. In this paper, Dr Henry Potts introduces a new NIHR-funded collaboration – the ERA project – researching how electronic records are used, and not used, in ambulances. While there are several obvious benefits to using electronic health records in ambulances, implementing new technology can be difficult. Studies in the US and Finland have found that the high burden of data entry with electronic systems led, at least initially, to longer call-outs. Planned research for the ERA project will use observations in the field across four ambulance services at different stages in the adoption of electronic record systems.
