2020 Yearbook of Medical Informatics

Congratulations to Prof Spiros Denaxas and his team on having their paper listed in the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) 2020 edition of the Yearbook of Medical Informatics as one of the best articles published in 2019 in the Knowledge Representation and Management chapter of the IMIA Yearbook. The 2019 article (Denaxas S et al. UK phenomics platform for developing and validating electronic health record phenotypes: CALIBER J Am Med Inform Assoc 2019;26(12):1545-59) describes an approach for developing, validating and sharing reproducible phenotypes from national structured electronic health records in the UK with applications for translational research.  Using the CALIBER phenotyping framework, the Prof Denaxas and colleagues created algorithms for 51 diseases, syndromes, biomarkers and lifestyle risk factor and provide up to 6 validation approaches.  The electronic health record phenotypes are curated in the open-access CALIBER Portal (https://www.caliberresearch.org/portal) and have been used by 40 national and international research groups in more than 60 peer-reviewed publications.

The Yearbook of IMIA contains references, reviews, and links to the "best of medical informatics" articles from the preceding year, together with a number of original articles, as well as background information on IMIA.  The 2020 IMIA Yearbook of Medical Informatics which special theme was "Ethics in Health Informatics",  is available as an open-access article here:
