VIVALDI Social Care Study

Reducing infections and improving lives

The VIVALDI Social Care Study is a research project led by the Outstanding Society, Care England and University College London. We are working together to undertake a 12-month pilot study to mitigate the impact of infections and outbreaks in care homes.

Study Goals: Our primary objective is to reduce the incidence of common infections among care home residents. By analysing data routinely collected by the NHS and public health agencies, we aim to create an anonymised database that can serve as a valuable resource for ongoing research and intervention strategies.

  • Collaborative Approach: The study is co-produced with input from care home staff, residents, family members, and providers to ensure it addresses real-world needs and concerns.
  • Data Utilisation: Utilising existing data allows us to conduct the study without requiring individual-level consent, though residents can opt-out of data sharing if they choose.
  • Ethical Compliance: This study has been approved by the Health Research Authority Confidentiality Advisory Group (HRA CAG), ensuring ethical and confidential handling of data.

Proposed Outputs:

  • Dashboards: Care home-level datasets that can be used by providers and policymakers to measure and understand health outcome of care home residents across different regions.
  • Research Database: A secure and anonymised database for wider use that can facilitate future research looking into new ways to prevent and reduce infections in care homes.

We are committed to prioritizing the needs and concerns of the care home community, leveraging our collective expertise to enhance health outcomes and quality of life for residents.
