How to access your bursaries as an ACF/CL
The NIHR Academy provide funding for all expenses associated with your academic development. The funding provides £1000 per year for each ACF and CL and is administered by the UCL Clinical Academic Training Office.
- The bursary can be used to attend conferences, workshops and research visits including travel, registration and hotel costs.
- The bursary can be used for short courses.
- The bursary cannot be used to cover laboratory costs or consumables.

NIHR MSc Training Bursary for ACFs:
The NIHR provide funding of £4500 for each ACF to undertake a Masters degree course or modules from a Masters or a PG Cert/Diploma. UCL Clinical Academic Training Office provides an additional £2500 of central funding.
You will need to discuss with your supervisor whether it would be beneficial for you to complete a postgraduate course during your ACF post. If you decide through agreement with your supervisor to undertake a Masters degree course or modules from a Masters or a PG Cert/Diploma you will need to contact Juwayria Choudhury who manages the MSc funding.
Study Leave Budget
If you are an ACF: Your study leave budget is paid by the Trust you worked at when you left to start your research block. Application for this is as per individual Trust guidelines.
If you are a CL: Your study leave budget is paid by UCL as your employer. Please contact Juwayria Choudhury for details about how to access this funding.
