22 October 2024
Prof Seth Anziska has been awarded for his project "Afterlives of Israel’s 1982 Lebanon Invasion: Writing History in a Time of War"
Many congratulations to Prof Seth Anziska who has been awarded one of 25 public scholars grants, totaling $1.4 million to "support well-researched books in the humanities aimed at a broad public audience" from the National Endowment for the Humanities (USA) for his project "Afterlives of Israel’s 1982 Lebanon Invasion: Writing History in a Time of War".
The grant will support ongoing writing of a book on the 1982 invasion of Lebanon by Israel, which had a wide-ranging impact throughout the Middle East, changing the relationship between the West and the Arab world, Jewish communities and Zionism, and influencing the movement for Palestinian self-determination. At a contemporary moment of profound rupture for Israel, Palestine, Lebanon and the wider region, the project also explores how historians can grapple with contested narratives of the recent past in order to make sense of the violence unfolding today.
