Rebecca Jennings discusses LGBT history on the BBC
10 August 2017
UCL History teaching fellow Rebecca Jennings has appeared on BBC Radio on several occasions over the past fortnight as part of the programming with which the corporation is marking the anniversary of the 1967 Sexual Offences Act, which partially decriminalised homosexuality. Both of the two-part documentaries on which Rebecca features can still be heard through the BBC iPlayer service over the next few weeks.
Presented by actor Andrew Scott, Born this Way aired on BBC Radio 2 on 26 July and 2 August. The programme examines gay people's influence on popular culture and includes appearances by several musicians and cultural leaders as well as academic contributions from Birkbeck's Professor Matt Cook and from Rebecca.
Rebecca can also be heard in another documentary, From Shame to Pride, which aired on BBC Radio 4 on Wednesdays 2 and 9 of August. This history of same-sex relationships in Britain, presented by author Val McDermid, includes discussion from Rebecca about same-sex relationships before the Sexual Offences Act was passed.
