Human Evolution Interest
I am interested in developing and applying methods to highlight signatures of natural selection in the human genome, and in correlating these findings with functional and phenotypic variation. Population genetics approaches have a unique role to play in uncovering the evolutionary causes of modern complex diseases, by prioritising candidate mutations for subsequent targeted association studies and functional experiments, for instance in the case of autoimmune diseases and metabolic traits.
I am also interested in deriving statistical tools for sequencing data analysis of human pathogens, final aim being the inference of the co-evolutionary history with humans.
