Physical fitness in the workplace

There are many benefits of leading a more physically active life and the Move More Challenge is a great place to start. Whether you are joining as part of a team to connect with others, taking on this challenge alone or wanting to spend some time away from your desk for your mental and physical wellbeing there is never a bad time to start being more physically active.

With 30 million working days lost in the UK due to Musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions and 7.6 million people in the UK living with heart and circulatory diseases, the benefits of small moments for movement cannot be understated.

The Move More Challenge is an opportunity to raise awareness that movement is a form of medicine and that any small moments for movement manoeuvred into your day will increase activity levels and benefit you long term.

The Challenge

Workplace Health is encouraging all staff to register and take part in this year’s Move More Challenge.

The challenge will be divided into two categories. The traditional ‘step challenge’ where you measure your steps, and the ‘time challenge’ which allows you to measure the time you spent moving. This allows for not only a more inclusive challenge, but also a more varied approach to personal fitness.

Last year saw over 800 staff across 136 teams take part in the challenge and fun weekly mini-challenges.

Collectively for the 2023 Move More Challenge UCL staff moved a total of 201,209km; 52% of the journey to the moon. This year, our eyes are firmly locked on making it to the moon!
