Bratislava: All-Cause Mortality

In Bratislava, there were 36,193 deaths from all causes over the study period (2000 - 2008). This figure consists of 18,056 male deaths and 18,137 female deaths and is based on data from the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic.

The geographical distribution of mortality risk in Bratislava differs substantially between men and women. Starting with the North-Eastern segment of the city, known as Lamač and Záhorská Bystrica, there is a clear mortality deficit for men (shown in dark green), but the same area is attributed with greater risk of death for women (shown in light beige). These gender differences are apparent elsewhere in the map. However, there are clusters in Bratislava with similarly low mortality risk for both men and women. These can be seen in the areas of Karlova Ves and Vrakuna, located opposite of each other on the Western and Eastern borders from the centre point of Bratislava.
