Košice: All-Cause Mortality

In Košice, there were 17,633 deaths from all causes over the study period (2000 - 2008).  This figure consists of 9,300 male deaths and 8,333 female deaths and is based on data from the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic.

The geographical distribution of all-cause mortality risk is by and large similar for men and women in Košice.  High excess mortality is primarily located in the South-Eastern corner of the city, specifically in Jus and Nad Jazerom.  High sSMRs (two highest septiles) are also seen elsewhere in Košice, made evident by smaller clusters above the South-Eastern segment of the city.  Neighbourhoods with the lowest sSMRs for male and female all-cause mortality reside just above the far South-West of the city, known as Northern Peres, and in the North-East, known as Tahanovce (shown in dark green on both maps).  Neighbourhoods with a deficit in all-cause mortality can also be found in the North-West of Košice, as shown by the extensive medium-green coloured areas on the map.
