This is the first book to reflect on the power that the moving image has to represent medical and health discourse in China. The work here has grown out of a Wellcome Trust-sponsored collaboration (UCL, PKU, KCL). The research came to fruition as part of the interconnected curriculum through our teaching of Medical and Health Humanities to Chinese students at UCL. Many of the students contributed to the chapters. The authors represent a broad interdisciplinary mix. Their combined approaches are united by a passion for improving the cross-cultural understanding of the body, its identities and practices, and for improvement in healthcare.
Prof Judy Farquhar (University of Chicago) says, ‘The medical humanities seek to humanize medicine, reaching the hearts and minds of students and health care workers with stories and images from a variety of present and past worlds. This volume is the secret weapon of that noble project’.
All welcome. Please note that there may be photography and/or audio recording at some events and that admission is on a first come first served basis. Please follow this FAQ link for more information. All our events are free but you can support the IAS here.
