TALKING WOMEN AND CREATIVITY WITH MARIA GIMENO AND ALEXANDER SAMSON
The artist, Maria Gimeno, and Professor Alexander Samson from UCL (SELC-SPLAS) warmly invite you to attend a roundtable discussion on the question of women and creativity. The event aims to enrich our current understanding of the impact of women’s cultural achievements on society through a lively, open discussion of different approaches to the question.
The event will begin with a fun performance by Maria Gimeno, where the audience will be invited to play a bingo game of female artists, which will serve as an introduction to the question under discussion. Thereafter, speakers from different backgrounds (academic, literary, and artistic) will share their experiences with female authorship and/or artistic creation, directly and indirectly: by taking turns, each speaker will provide concise (2-3-minute) answers to a set number of questions posed by the moderator. Following the speakers’ interventions, the audience will be invited to share their experiences, with a view to further enrich the discussion.
Moderator:
Malca Mizrahi, Architect and Painter
Speakers:
Frances Borzello, Author
Tamar Garb, Art Historian (UCL)
María Gimeno, Performance and Visual Artist
Alexander Samson, Cultural Historian (UCL)
Esther M. Villegas de la Torre, Cultural Historian (UCL)
