Call for Visiting Research Fellows at the UCL Critical Childhood Studies Centre (CCSC)

We welcome applications from post-doctoral, mid-career and senior scholars for in-person or virtual non-stipendiary Visiting Research Fellows at the UCL Critical Childhood Studies Centre (CCSC), to spend between three and nine months with us in the 2024/25 academic year, starting in the Autumn term.

In-person Fellowships

We will provide shared desk space, membership of the CCSC and IAS research communities, access to UCL resources including the library, full participation in CCSC and IAS events (e.g. seminars, workshops and conferences) and a framework in which you can present your research and participate in a research community.  

In return, we ask that you make a case as to why being at the Centre will be beneficial for you and how, in turn, you will contribute to the CCSC and to the IAS. We would expect you to be on UCL campus at least once/week during term-time, but we will consider alternative arrangements in exceptional cases.

All new Visiting Research Fellows will have a Right To Work check carried out when they arrive (this is required, even though it is a non-stipendiary position), so if you are coming from overseas please ensure that you are travelling on the correct visa.  You can check this here

Virtual Fellowships

We anticipate people will apply for Virtual Fellowships due to legal, financial, or other structural barriers to mobility and/or because their Fellowship project has a focus on in situ research - particularly where local infrastructures have been destroyed / depleted. 

We wouldn't normally expect the Virtual Fellow role:

• to go to someone in a full-time/permanent role in a stable academic institution
• to run alongside an existing full-time post

We will provide membership of the CCSC and IAS research communities, participation in online CCSC and IAS events, and a framework in which you can present your research and participate in a research community (e.g., online meetings and events with Centre members and the public).

In return, we ask that you make a case as to why being at the Centre will be beneficial for you and how, in turn, you will contribute to the CCSC and to the IAS using online fora.
