The centre is leading a major expansion in the teaching and learning of Mandarin Chinese language in the school system. CCLE delivers teaching and learning programmes that include support for schools to teach Chinese language on curriculum, teacher training, resource development and research.
About us
Aims
The centre aims to:
- Deliver programmes that enhance the teaching and learning of Mandarin Chinese in schools;
- Support the mainstreaming of Chinese teaching in schools;
- Advance research on the learning of Chinese as a foreign language, providing a secure basis for future thinking and developments in the field;
- Work with universities and sixth form schools/colleges to ensure that a pathway exists for students to learn Chinese into Key Stage 5 and beyond;
- Develop and share teaching materials suitable for use in schools;
- Offer teacher training nationally including the IOE Mandarin Chinese PGCE, Early Career programmes, upskilling in Chinese for teachers of other languages and training subject experts;
- Offer teacher training nationally and internationally via our Approaches to Chinese Teaching hybrid modular course.
- Work with stakeholders across education and commercial sectors.
