Join us for the second webinar of our UCL Changemakers and UCL Centre for Higher Education Studies (CHES) event series: Academic writing and publishing for doctoral students.
In this event, Dr Xu and Dr Chong will share their experiences as an editor for the Children & Society journal and an associate editor for the journal of Higher Education Research & Development respectively.
They will focus on common issues that lead to (desk) rejections as well as advice for postgraduate research (PGR) students in writing journal manuscripts.
Academic writing and publishing for doctoral students
A practical webinar series on the academic writing skills for international postgraduate research (PGR) students.
The aim of this series is to offer relevant trainings on academic writing and publishing to PGR students, to increase awareness of academic writing resources for doctoral students, as well as to collect student feedbacks on their experiences of using these resources.

About the Speakers
Dr Yuwei Xu
Research Fellow and Lecturer in Teacher and Early Years Education at UCL Institute of Education
With a PhD in gender and early childhood studies gained from the University of Glasgow, Yuwei’s research interests include:
- gender and men’s participation in early childhood education and care (ECEC)
- child agency
- 0-3 curriculum
- child-centred pedagogy
- parenting and family relationships
- play-based pedagogy
- and teacher professional development.
He is an editor for Children & Society journal and an associate editor for Teachers and Teaching: Theory and Practice. Yuwei is also an editorial board member for British Educational Research Journal.
Yuwei recently edited a special issue on ‘Beyond gender binaries: pedagogies and practices in ECEC’, together with Jo Warin and Martin Robb.
He is also membership lead on the executive committee of Gender and Education Association, external examiner at the University of Derby, and PhD advisor at the University of Queensland and Durham University.

Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at Queen’s University Belfast
Sin-Wang’s main research interests include assessment feedback in higher education, educational/language assessment, and qualitative research synthesis.
He is Associate Editor of the journals Higher Education Research & Development (Taylor & Francis) (SSCI-indexed) and Innovation in Language Learning and Teaching (Taylor & Francis) (Scopus-indexed & ESCI-indexed). He is also Section Editor of 'Education and Language' in Elsevier's Encyclopedia of Language and Linguistics (3rd edition).
Sin-Wang sits on the editorial review boards of a number of international refereed journals. He is a regular reviewer for leading journals in higher education and language education.
