This event will examine Oxford and Cambridge's status as the key educational channels of elite recruitment in the UK. 

Aaron and Sam will look at 130 years of biographical data in Who's Who, a unique catalogue of the British elite, in addition to examining the rise and fall of Oxbridge's power over the years. They will also analyse the correlation between elite positions and attendance at elite private schools.


This in-person event will be particularly useful for researchers, policy makers and teachers.

Professor Aaron Reeves

Professor of Sociology and Social Policy at the Department of Social Policy and Intervention at Oxford University

His research looks at public health, political economy and elites.

Professor Sam Friedman

Professor of Sociology at the London School of Economics

His research interests lie in class, culture and social mobility, as well as the development of the British elite.
