Two IOE research centres awarded ‘Legacy Centre Status’ and receive £100,000 funding
5 July 2019
UCL Institute of Education’s (IOE) Centre for Time Use Research and Centre for Learning and Life Chances in Knowledge Economies and Societies are two of five research centres that have been granted ‘Legacy Centre Status’ by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
The Legacy Centre Status Review is a rigorous process of review to recognise the ongoing excellence and credibility of a former ESRC centre. Securing this status means the centres will receive up to £100,000 funding to support communication, knowledge exchange, and capacity building activities and will be known as ESRC centres for a further five years.
The Centre for Time Use Research (CTUR) specialises in developing the collection and analysis of time use diary data, disseminating both skills and datasets to a wide international audience, and conducting internationally recognised research. CTUR originated the Multinational Time Use Study (MTUS), which currently provides 1.5 million days of randomly sampled time diary evidence for 25 countries over 65 years. The Centre has been based at the IOE since April 2019.
The Centre for Learning and Life Chances in Knowledge Economies and Societies (LLAKES) researches the connections between learning and the promotion of economic competitiveness and social cohesion.
It aims to work with policymakers, education and training professionals, employers, trade unions and other interested parties to improve the way in which national and international research evidence is shared and used.
