IOE academic delivers keynote on early years teacher education
20 November 2019
UCL Institute of Education (IOE) academic Dr Clare Brooks has delivered a keynote in Shanghai to 700 delegates.
Dr Brooks delivered her talk ‘What do we mean when we talk about quality? Questioning shared understandings of quality in teacher education particularly in the early years’ at East China Normal University.
The talk was part of the Quality Evaluation and Promotion of Preschool Education conference and was attended by early years education experts, academics, kindergarten heads and teachers.
Dr Brooks explored findings from three literature reviews conducted by the Centre for Teacher and Early Years Education, which examined papers on quality issues in early years education in China and assessment in early childhood in China.
Within the talk, Dr Brooks covered several different definitions of ‘quality’ and examined whether education in China could be improved by using assessment tools differently. The talk also noted the implications of this for teacher education.
The Quality Evaluation and Promotion of Preschool Education conference took place from 18-20 November 2019.
