UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology & Cleveland Clinic London MPhil/PhD Neuroscience Fellowship

Cleveland Clinic London (CCL) and UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology (IoN) are working together to develop the next generation of Neurologists and Neurosurgeons.

We are pleased to invite applications to participate in a unique Fellowship programme, under which Fellows will be employed by the Cleveland Clinic and will study at UCL. The Fellow will register part-time for the IoN MPhil/PhD Programme. The research project undertaken will be supervised by a Clinician/Scientist at IoN or National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN). Opportunities for collaboration with the Cleveland Clinical Neuroscience Research Centre USA will be encouraged.

About the Fellowship:

The Fellow will work 120 clinical hours per month for CCL, situated at 33 Grosvenor Place, which will open in late January 2022. The facility will accommodate 184 inpatient beds; eight operating rooms; a full imaging suite; endoscopy and catheterisation labs; and, day case rooms for surgery. The hospital will provide a comprehensive Neuroscience service including a dedicated neurosurgical theatre with iMRI, spinal surgery, and a 42-bedded neurorehabilitation ward including dedicated video telemetry beds for sleep and complex epilepsy. It is planned for the Fellow to primarily support these services.

The Fellow will receive a salary from their part-time employment with CCL. Fellows will be paid in line with the DoH pay scales for Specialist Registrars at the appropriate level of experience. CCL will also pay the Fellow’s PhD fees (set at UK/EU rate) and provide a bench-fee of £9K per annum to cover the cost of their research. This Fellowship represents an excellent opportunity to work as part of a leading global healthcare system, working with Consultants who are leaders in their field, and the UK’s leading Neuroscience research institute.

Requirements:

Successful candidates will hold MRCP/MRCS or equivalent and will be a Registered Medical Practitioner, preferably with an NTNin Neurology or Neurosurgery. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills, good inter-personal skills with an ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting, and a supportive and caring attitude to patients and colleagues. Previous research experience is desirable.
