Synopsis:
In this presentation, I want to talk about recent work on cortical-depth dependent fMRI in humans with blood-volume weighted MRI sequences. I will start by introducing the practical challenges of high-resolution fMRI at ultra-high fields in humans. For the main part of the presentation, I will give an overview of recent neuroscientific application studies of blood volume weighted layer-fMRI, in the sensory motor system, in the visual cortex, the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, and beyond. I will conclude that whole-brain layer-fMRI without large-vessel contamination is applicable for human neuroscience and opens the door to investigate biological mechanisms behind any number of neuroscientific and psychological phenomena.
