Everything you need to know on your first day

UCL Welcome Space

If you've not seen it already, UCL has a great online "Welcome Space". 

This should be your go-to place on your first day to access loads of useful information about how to get set up at work, finding your way around UCL, getting connected with colleagues and the exciting UCL events you can attend or take part in.

Manager induction

Your manager should arrange an induction for you, which should include:

  • IT account set-up*, equipment issue and access to systems.
  • The probation policy and how probation works.
  • Details of mandatory training to be completed during the probation period.
  • Further information about your role, introductions to key contacts etc.

*If you've not already retrieved your UCL user ID and set your password, please do so by following the link in the email correspondence from central HR that contained your contract.

ISD locations

ISD's home locations are SMLG and Judd Street, at the moment you have to book a desk for SMLG, please see link below.

Please ensure you complete a building induction/fire safety walkaround in whatever building you are working in. Contact ISD's Office Manager - Amber Kahn - via businessops@ucl.ac.uk to arrange (please put Amber's name in the subject heading).

ISD also uses space at Bidborough House and other locations such as Cheinies Mews and Cruciform, please check with your line manager which building you will need to work in. 

Belong at UCL

There is a handy Welcome app for staff called 'Belong at UCL'. Key features include schedules to let you keep track of what's going on, information for events you are attending, campus maps and tours to help you get around and much more:

Hybrid and remote working

We have a new Making Hybrid Work hub, your one-stop shop for information as we return to more on-site working. There is also a host of ready-made tools to facilitate remote working away from campus.
