REDCap is a mature, secure web application for building and managing online surveys and databases.
While REDCap can be used to collect virtually any type of data, it is specifically geared to support data capture for research studies. More information can be found on the Project REDCap website.
The UCL REDCap service provides a simple web based tool for creating online surveys, eCRFs and other research data collection needs. Its interface makes it straightforward for anybody to create and manage data collection tools, whilst also supporting more complex data management activities (Double entry, randomisation, data cleansing, anonymisation, etc).
There are two versions of the service:
Standard version
This version can be used for low sensitivity (ie. not special category personal) data and for testing or evaluating REDCap prior to using the Data Safe Haven version.
To apply for the standard REDCap service, use the REDCap (Standard Version) - Request access form.
Data Safe Haven version
This version captures data directly into the Data Safe Haven and is suitable for high sensitivity, such as special category personal data or where there is a need to demonstrate a high level of security around the data, such as meeting contractual requirements.
The first step is to set up access to the Data Safe Haven. Details on obtaining access
Once you have a project set up in the Data Safe Haven, REDCap can be added. The IAO / IAA completes should use the REDCap (Standard Version) - Request access form.
Migration from the standard to the Data Safe Haven version
Instructions for migrating from the standard to the Data Safe Haven version of REDCap are detailed on the User Guides and FAQ page
