Changing Guest access to software on Lectern PCs - 30 September 2024
30 September 2024
We are enhancing the way UCL staff and students access applications with the new UCL Application Store and this means accessing university software on desktop@UCL lectern PCs in teaching spaces is changing.
What’s Changing?
Most applications will no longer be pre-installed on desktop@ucl lectern computers. Applications will be streamed ‘on-demand’ from the UCL Application Store.
To access the UCL Application Store a valid UCL username and password is required. This will mean that users who login to a lectern desktop@UCL computer in a teaching space or lecture theatre using the local ‘UCLGUEST’ account will not have access to the full library of applications available to UCL students and staff.
The following software will be locally installed and available to use without the need to login to the UCL Application Store:-
- Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, OneNote, OneDrive)
- PDF Reader (via Chrome, Firefox or Word)
- Google Chrome
- Firefox
If a visiting speaker requires access to UCL’s extended library of applications, a valid UCL username and password will be needed to login to the UCL Application Store..
A visitor account can be requested via Services System:- https://www.ucl.ac.uk/isd/how-to/how-to-create-visitor-record-services-system
