Purchasing and requesting software
Staff devices
- Purchasing software for departmental (Desktop @ UCL and standalone) machines
In the first instance search the Software Database to see if the software you need is available centrally.
If the software is available (for Desktop@UCL for staff or staff standalone machines) see the Licenses and Downloads sections for details on how to add the software to your machine.
If a purchase or request is required, see the Licenses section for instructions on how to complete a purchase/request. In some instances, you may be required to complete a request using the Software Hub (you will need to be connected to UCL's VPN to access this service) or purchase via https://techsource.computacenter.com/
If the software you need is not available on the Software Database, please see Purchasing non-standard software for departmental (Desktop @ UCL and standalone) machines below.
- Purchasing non-standard software for departmental (Desktop @ UCL and standalone) machines
Depending on the value or complexity you can either contact us by submitting a Non-standard software purchasing request on MyServices or if the value is below £50k you can purchase directly from https://techsource.computacenter.com/
At all time following - https://www.ucl.ac.uk/finance/policies-corporate-info/financial-regulations/fin-regs-7-non-pay-expenditure
Computa center must be used before new supplier requests are raised and Computacenter must be one of the three quotes.
- Purchasing Apple/iTunes apps
Please note: If you wish to buy an app through iTunes, UCL does not allow you to purchase the application yourself and claim money back via iExpenses.
To purchase an app through iTunes, for ones or twos we recommend you claim this via UCL purchasing cards. For any large orders use - Non-standard software purchasing request form on MyServices
- Requesting software installation for Desktop @ UCL (where you have a licence or the application doesn’t need a licence)
Please note: This request should be completed by a member of staff.
- If your software request requires installation on more than 10 devices complete an application discovery document (why is this needed?)
- Fill in the Desktop @ UCL Staff Request form and attach your completed application discovery document if required
- Submit your request
Teaching devices
- Request new software for teaching devices
Please note: Requests to package and deploy applications for teaching machines must be requested by an academic who intends to use the proposed application for teaching purposes.
