The UCL Organised Crime Research Network (OCRN) is a multidisciplinary collaboration platform between academics, practitioners and stakeholders interested in organised crime research, and in how this knowledge translates into innovative prevention and disruption strategies.
As a network we aim to promote an active interaction between our members by creating an open environment to discuss trends and challenges related to organised crime.
To achieve this strategic goal, the UCL OCRN offers a unique opportunity for students, researchers, and other decision-makers from all over the world to develop lasting academic and professional ties with a community focused on understanding and countering organised crime.
The UCL OCRN is based in the UCL Jill Dando Institute of Security and Crime Science, which is the first institute in the world devoted to Crime Science. Research at JDI focuses on devising new ways to cut crime and increase security, supported by a strong scientific foundation while embracing a multidisciplinary approach.
What makes us different?
While we are open to research focused on all types of organised crimes, we are particularly interested in research with strong theoretical foundations, that uses sound empirical methodology, and that points towards practical means of countering these crimes.
We encourage exploring the use of different tools and methods successfully developed or utilised in other domains to study organised crime. For example, our members have developed research using the following techniques: network analysis, mapping and geo-statistics, crime scripts, machine learning, mathematical modelling, predictive analytics, fault analysis and big data, to name a few.
Steering Committee
The UCL OCRN is currently administered by a selected steering committee, under the supervision of a Chair.
