The UCL Centre for Languages & International Education (CLIE) offers each year a scholarship to two Undergraduate Preparatory Certificate (UPC) students who have the best academic performance at the end of the course and have also progressed to a UCL undergraduate degree.

We’re very proud to announce that this year’s winners are:

  • Yuxuan He, UPC for Humanities (UPCH) scholarship
  • Tracy Liu, UPC for Science & Engineering (UPCSE) scholarship

Both Yuxuan and Tracy receive £5000 towards their tuition fees for the duration of their undergraduate programme.

Yuxuan, who progressed to UCL Law, said: “I was absolutely amazed when I was told that I got this scholarship and it is definitely the best proof of the effort that I have made during the past year. Above all, I am more than grateful to all of my tutors and the UPC team for all their kind support.”

UPCH subject teacher Dr Dan Kilburn said: “This year several students achieved close to full marks across all of their modules. However, Yuxuan’s exceptional performance placed her ‘top of the class’ amongst this strong field. We were particularly pleased to recognise Yuxuan as a student continuing her studies on the highly-competitive Law LLB course. We wish her the very best of luck in her future studies and career.”

Tracy, who goes on to study Biosciences BSc, was equally honoured to win the award and paid tribute to her personal tutor and teachers:

“I want to express my gratitude towards my personal tutor, Angela Cooper, who helped me cope with problems regarding study and personal life. She gave me constructive advice on how to keep a balance between work and leisure, which proves to be vital for time management.

I also want to say thank you to my chemistry teachers, Dr Aga Kosinska and Dr Deborah Gater. They made me realise the importance of acquiring knowledge through understanding instead of simple memorisation, which made my exam preparation much easier.”

Aga said: “It has been a real honour and pleasure to know and work with Tracy. She has been one of the students who went above and beyond in her studies to make sure she fully comprehended the most complex concepts in chemistry. She completely deserves to be the UPCSE scholarship winner.”
