Learn how to apply for the Pre-University Online Course for High School Students, including the documents you will need to submit, application process and how to pay.
Application process
You should make your application directly to the UCL Centre for Languages & International Education, via our online application.
Please check you meet our entry requirements and eligibility criteria before submitting your application.
If you are expecting to start a UCL degree in September 2024 you should consider the UCL Pre-sessional English course instead.
Required application documents
You will need the following to be considered for the Pre-University Course:
- Fully completed application form - including personal statement section.
- A copy of your most recent annual high school transcript.
- Evidence of your English language level (IELTS or equivalent). If you do not have an English language qualification, but meet our other requirements, you are invited to apply and will be sent a test to evaluate your level of English.
Personal statement
Your personal statement is an important part of the application form.
In 250-300 words you should explain:
- why you would like to be selected for course
- what personal qualities you have that will help you study online with students from other cultures and backgrounds
- how you think your education has helped prepare you for this course. Please include the activities outside the classroom that you have taken part in during the last two years that you think will have helped prepare you for this online course with UCL CLIE.
Your answer must be written using complete sentences and must be in two paragraphs.
Please write the paragraphs by yourself and do not get help from anyone else.
Application deadline
12pm, Monday 24 June 2024
Please note, applications may close earlier than the above deadline if all places on the course are filled.
Paying tuition fees
If you are made an offer, you are required to pay the course fee to reserve your place.
Places on the Pre-University Course are limited, therefore early applications are advised.
Course fees can be paid by credit or debit card on the UCL Online Store. Full details of how to pay the fees will be emailed with our formal offer.
Refunds
Full refunds of course fees will be made in the event of a visa application refusal where a further visa application is not possible. Claims must be supported by a Refusal of Entry Clearance letter.
Other refund requests must be received by 12pm, Monday 24 June 2024 (the refund request deadline) to be considered and are subject to a 10% administration charge. Refund requests must be submitted by email to pre-university@ucl.ac.uk.
Requests for full or pro-rata refunds for students withdrawing from a course of study after its commencement will not be considered.
