I completed my LLM in 1982, with a specialism in International Law. During my undergraduate studies in Nigeria, I studied Public International Law in my final year. On graduation, my desire was to join the Diplomatic Service, which influenced my choice of subjects at UCL. There is such a diverse range of modules and materials available at UCL Laws, and I decided to study International Law of the Sea and Armed Conflict and Use of Force – both of which were hugely topical issues at the time.
One of my best memories was using the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies Library. I was impressed with the resources available, and it also provided me with an opportunity to interact with a wide range of students from UCL, and also from the University of London.
After graduating, I worked as a corporate to various government departments and corporations before retiring to legal practice.
If you’re thinking of joining UCL Laws, what I’d say is: studying at UCL will expose you to a unique institution with a very rich and diverse Faculty. The diversity of the Faculty and the wider student population ensured that the students from different countries and regions of the world interact and in turn, learn from each other. For me, the diverse makeup of the student and Faculty was a memorable part of my experience – it is truly a privilege to an alumnus of UCL.
