UCL Laws LLM students to host conference on ‘Current Issues in Restitution’
20 March 2018
Students currently taking the LLM module ‘Restitution of Unjust Enrichment’ will host a conference, with the theme ‘Current Issues in Restitution’, on Saturday 24 March.
The event will run from 9.30 am (registration) until 3.30 pm in Room 728 at the Institute of Education (IOE), 20 Bedford Way.
The conference is intended as a forum to consider various recent developments, with several cases having reached the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. One controversial recent example is Investment Trust Companies (in liquidation) v HMRC (2017), concerning the recovery of VAT which was overpaid secondary to an incorrectly transposed European Union Directive.
Ten student speakers, drawn from five universities are scheduled to present on a range of topics. There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of each presentation and audience participation is actively encouraged.
Attendance is free and is open to any student from any university with an interest in the area.
