Mary Russell (née Bannerman)

Scottish absentee, identified in the compensation records as of Finzean, Kincardine O'Neil, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, claimant for the compensation for the enslaved people on Mill Hill on Antigua which might have been intercepted by George Fraser, the London mortgagee. In the Slave Registers from 1817 onwards, registration was made by her attorneys.

1. Lockhart Russell of Southampton, whose will was proved 13/02/1798, left the Mill Hill and Gardeners estates in Antigua for life to his wife Rachel Russell nee Yeamans and then to his nephew Francis Russell. Under the will of Frances [sic] Russell of Blackhall [indexed as 'of Banchory Ternan'] Kincardineshire proved 08/01/1807, Francis left the estates to his wife Mary Russell otherwise Bannerman, subject to the life interest of Lockhart Russell's widow Rachel, as well as £10,000 and the annuity of £600 p.a. that he in turn had been left by Lockhart Russell during the life of Francis' aunt (Lockhart Russell's widow) Rachel.

2. Mary and Francis Russell's daughter Jane (d. 1819) married Sir Alexander Ramsay, MP for Kincardineshire 1820-1826.
