William Smith junior

Awarded the compensation with his brother or cousin Thomas Smith (q.v.) for enslaved people on Bossue in Manchester Jamaica as executors and devizees in trust of their uncle Adam Smith.

1. William Smith of Shedlaw, Northumberland, farmer, leased Burton Farm in the parish of Bamborough, 05/05/1832. He is also mentioned, along with his brother Thomas, in the Farmer's Magazine in November 1835 as a cattle breeder, "possessing a very superior stock".

2. 04/05/1854: "Certificate of the death of William Smith of Shedlaw and of his son William Smith of East Learmouth being the eldest son and sole executor under his will which was prove in the consistory court of the Bishop of Durham". William Smith son of Shedlaw died 21st November 1853. Will dated 13th June 1846.

T71/860 Manchester no. 456 executors and devisees in trust under will of Adam Smith esq. (will proved 04/09/1815 [of Marylebone, PROB 11/1573]. T71/1190 identifies the two men as nephews of Adam Smith, and William Smith as farmer of Shedlaw, Northumberland.
