1798 - 1863
Awarded the compensation for the enslaved people on Oldbury estate in Manchester with James Sutton and John James Ronaldson 'owners-in-fee.' The Slave Registers show Robert Sutton [probably senior] and John James Ronaldson buying the estate and enslaved people between 1829 and 1832. Despite this, Robert Sutton jun., James Sutton and John James Ronaldson appear possibly to have been trustees, in which case the award might be connected with James Swaby (q.v.), almost certainly the brother-in-law of Robert Sutton jun.
Probably but not certainly the Robert Sutton junr whose partnership as stockbrokers with Robert Sutton, James Sutton and Thomas Gribble was dissolved 31/12/1842 through the retirement of Robert Sutton. Again probably, son of Robert Sutton of Finsbury Place and Rossway, Northchurch Hertfordshire who died 1848.
In 1841 Robert Sutton aged 35 stockbroker was living at Hamilton Terrace with wife Harriet aged 30, Robert Sutton junior aged 9 and W. Sutton merchant aged 20. In 1861 Robert Sutton stockbroker aged 62 was living at 29 Queen Anne Street with wife Harriet aged 56 born Andover.
01/08/1846 conveyance and assignment of Moore Plantation Robert Sutton the elderly [sic] Esq., to Robert Sutton the younger Esq., and others.
Letters of Administration for Robert Sutton widower who died 22/08/1863 at 29 Queen Anne Street Cavendish Square granted 13/10/1863 to Rev. Robert Sutton, effects £14,000.
