John Wilson of Liverpool

Of Liverpool, counterclaimed as mortgagee for £8500, apparently unsuccessfully, for the compensation on Strathaven in British Guiana. Possibly the John Wilson who had been in partnership with John Gladstone in Gladstone, Grant and Wilson (q.v.) until September 1829 and then from 1831 was partner and brother-in-law of Frederick Cort (q.v.), having married Charlotte Cort in British Guiana sometime before 1803. If so, then his will was proved 24/09/1856.

After leaving £1000 to his sister and £3000 in London & Northwestern Railway stock in trust for his son Mackenzie Wilson, and monetary legacies to his grandsons, he rather unusually made his grand-daughters his residuary legatees. These were the children of John Wilson's daughter Eliza and John Gladstone's nephew Thomas Ogilvie.
