Edward Dennis

Owner of Pucklechurch estate in St Elizabeth, Jamaica. Died between 1817 and 1819.

1. Eleanor Frances Pight, spinster, married Edward Dennis, gentleman, at St Elizabeth by licence, 14/01/1789, both of the parish. She had been born 14/08/1774, daughter of Thomas Pight, and was baptised 01/12/1774 in St Elizabeth.

2. Elizabeth Frances and Edward Dennis were the parents of: Thomas Senior Dennis, born 1 Ma[rch] 1790 and bapt. 01/06/1791; and Edward Vassall Dennis, born 07/04/1792 and bapt. 21/05/1793.

3. Valeria Dennis, daughter of Mr Edward Dennis "by a maroon negro called Juba", was baptised in St Elizabeth, 01/06/1791, aged about 6 years.

4. John Vassall of St Elizabeth bequeathed £1000 to his "near relation" Edward Dennis of St Elizabeth. John Vassall died in 1779. Perhaps this was Edward, son of Dr Stephen Dennis and his wife Valeria, born 27/11/1747 and baptised in St.Elizabeth 22/1/1748 (query if his mother was Valeria, nee Senior, widow of William Vassall (died 1745) and sister-in-law of John Vassall of St Elizabeth: the naming of Edward’s son as Thomas Senior Dennis may be a pointer).
