James Wedderburn (Solicitor General for Scotland)

Third surviving son of James Wedderburn Colvile. Born at the family home Inveresk, he was educated at the grammar school Musselburgh. In 1803 he became a member of the faculty of advocates, and rose to become Solicitor General for Scotland in 1816. He died after a short illness at the age of 39.

James Wedderburn married Isabella Clerk, daughter of James Clerk of Penicuik, Midlothian. The couple had 4 sons and 3 daughters. 1 son entered the British army and 2 entered the East India Company. His daughter Jemima has an entry in the ODNB as 'painter and illustrator', and another daughter Jean married Peter Blackburn, M.P. for Stirling (q.v.).

He was left £5000 in his father's will, drawn from the latter's Jamaican estates. He was named trustee and executor in the will of his cousin John Wedderburn of Spring Garden (q.v.).
