Son of Samuel Barrett (1689-1760) and father of Samuel Wisdom Barrett (q.v.) and Mary Trant nee Barrett. Of Spot Valley in St James, Jamaica. Died in London January 1798.
Wisdom Barratt was listed in the Jamaican Quit Rent books for 1754 as the owner of 300 acres of land in St James.
Barretts of Jamaica pp. 175-178; T71/1608: letter, dated 10/09/1835, from Bush & Master, St Mildred's Court, notifying the Court of Chancery of the Chancery suit Barrett versus Deffell. States that Wisdom Barrett 'seems to have spent much of his time at his house in Mount St rather than at Spot Valley in St James Parish, and both of his wives were successively buried in England at St Giles in the Field'.

PROB 11/1301/234. Wisdom Barrett of Spot Valley Jamaica currently residing at Mount Street, Grosvenor Square, Middlesex. Spot Valley to brother Edward Barrett, his son George Goodin Barrett and John Deffell of Gower Street, Bedford Square as trustees for 500 years. Firstly, to pay by the rents and produce or by mortgage my debts and legacies as my personal estate may be deficient to pay them. Secondly to pay my youngest son Joseph Francis Sill Barrett an annuity of £1,000 sterling during his life or until he shall come into possession of Spot Valley estate by virtue of the limitations hereinafter contained. After his decease to continue to pay the £1,000 annuity but to his eldest son until he or they shall come into the actual possession of my said estate. In case my son should leave a widow, an annuity of £200 p/a to her, to be paid out of the £1,000 annuity. To the daughters and younger sons of my said son Joseph Francis Sill Barrett £1,000 each to be vested interest in each of them at age 21 years with interest in the meantime to be applied towards their maintenance. In case my eldest son Samuel Wisdom Barrett shall leave daughters or younger sons then £1,000 to each of them at age 21. In case my son Samuel Wisdom Barrett shall leave a widow then an annuity of £200 p/a to her. To my late wife Anna Maria Barrett's children (Theodosia Paul and Mary Ash and Francis Bowland) an annuity of £40 p/a in full of all demands they may have upon my estates real and personal until the suit in Chancery touching the monies arising by the sale of the estate of Robert Brout Esquire of Larkstoke in Gloucestershire (long since deceased) shall finally be settled. Further upon trust for the use of my daughter Mary Barrett the interest of the sum of £8,000 sterling to be raised for and paid to her by paying £1,000 each year from the net annual rents and produce of this estate until the sum of £8,000 is reached. When these legacies have been paid then the said term of 500 years to cease and be void, Spot Valley then I devise to the use of my eldest son Samuel Wisdom Barrett for his life, with my son Samuel Widsom Barrett and Thomas Wright to be trustees. After his death to the eldest lawfully born son. In default to my son Joseph Francis Sill Barrett for his life, then his eldest lawfully born son. In default to my daughter Mary, her heirs and assigns forever. My leasehold estate at Hales[Hans?] Place, Knightsbridge, Middlesex, to Thomas Wright and Francis Bowland upon trust for my son Joseph Francis Sill Barrett to receive the residue of the rents and profits there for life. After his decease upon trust for his daughters and younger sons equally. In default upon trust for my daughter Mary Barrett. In case I should die before the houses and other buildings at Hans Place are completely finished then they to be finished by my executors out of my personal estate. The residue of my personal estate to my son Joseph Francis Sill Barrett and my daughter Mary Barrett share and share alike. To Theodosia Paul and Mary Ann and Francis Bowland and my daughter Mary Barrett all monies which I may be entitled to at my decease in right of their late mother from the estate of Robert Brout deceased. To Elizabeth Swinburn, spinster, sister to the wife of my said son Joseph Francis Sill Barrett £100 sterling. To my brother Edward, his son George Goodin Barrett and John Deffell, Thomas Wright and Francis Bowland £50 each. Edward Barrett, George Goodin Barrett and John Deffell to be my executors. Thomas Wright and Francis Bowland to be guardians of my daughter Mary Barrett until age 21. Signed 30/08/1792. Codicil dated 01/09/1792. To James Douglass of Bedford Street, Bedford Square, James Barnard of Castle Street, Holborn and Thomas Varley of Great Ormond Street all my leasehold pieces of ground and buildings in St Pancras otherwise Kentish Town in Middlesex.
