???? - 1808
Widow of Henry Brouncker and then John Stanley (q.v.), mother of Henry Brouncker (q.v.).
Will of Susannah [sic] Stanley of Berners Street proved 09/05/1808. In the will she divided her property into four equal parts, and left them among her grandson Henry Ralph Willett (q.v.), his children, her son Henry Brouncker for life, and her daughter Mary Strode (and then to Mary Strode's sons William and Heneage Finch) and Lewis William Brouncker. Among several smaller bequests she gave an annuity of £30 for life to "my Black Woman Hannah commonly called Edinburgh" as well as "her freedom and such furniture for a Bed Room and sitting Room as my Exors shall chuse". She also bequeathed to Elizabeth Bowry "a Mullatto woman belonging to me and living in England her freedom."
Mary Brouncker married William Clement Finch at the house of her mother and stepfather in Marylebone in 1789. Finch was buried in Albury, Surrey, age 41 in 1794: "Rear Admiral of the Blue & one of the Representatives in Parliament for the County of Surrey". She remarried, to William Strode in Marylebone in 1803; one of the witnesses to the ceremony was John Willett Willett (q.v., Mary's brother-in-law). In her will, where she described herself as "late of Brook Street in the County of Middlesex and of Northaw in the County of Hertford but now of Upper Harley Street in the County of Middlesex, widow", she included a bequest "to Elizabeth Bowrey a Mulatto woman formerly belonging to and in the service of my Mother and now living at Northaw aforesaid the annual sum of twenty pounds during her life." She may be the Mary Strode, age 47, buried in St Etheldreda, Hatfield, in 1813.
