'Free quadroon', probably the Sarah Letitia Webster, daughter of Gilbert Webster and 'free mulatto' Sarah Stanton, born 24/03/1773 and baptised in Port Royal, Jamaica, 04/04/1776. Between 1795 and 1812, Sarah Letitia had six certain and probably seven children in Jamaica with Nicholas Lechmere, owner of Mount Atlas coffee plantation and Ordnance keeper at Port Royal. Nicholas died in November 1817 shortly after losing possession of Mount Atlas.
Sarah Letitia owned enslaved people in Kingston (15 in 1817, reduced by sales and deaths to 8 in 1820). In 1820 she also acted as trustee for her children under a deed recorded from Nicholas Lechmere for 9 enslaved people. She was deceased by the time of the 1823 register. Nothing else is known of her beyond that she was literate, signing the registers herself.
