Alexander McLachlan of Trelawney and Rathbone Place

???? - 1783

Biography

Will of Alexander McLachlan late of Trelawny Jamaica but now of Charlotte Street Rathbone Place proved 10/05/1783. In the will [which has not yet been fully analysed by LBS] he explained that he was lessee of Cheshire plantation under a lease running until 1787, but owner of the enslaved people working on it, either in his own right or by formerly his wife's property before the marriage. He also owned a pen called Reserve that appears to have supported the Cheshire estate. He left half the produce from Cheshire over the remaining lease term, the Reserve pen, and another pen named Rock Pleasant, also in Trelawny, to his wife for life. He left his nephew Capt. Lachlan McLachlan £2000 of the 73rd Foot to purchase a higher commission.
