Born 1698, owned Wedderly and Osborn estates in Jamaica. Married Margaret (d. 1791), daughter of James Edgar, a writer in Edinburgh, in 1742, His children were Alexander (d. 1820), James, of Auchingrammont (d. 1810), Handasyde, M.D. (d. 1806), Susan (d. 1778 aged 22) and Charity. Died in 1777. Described as "late of Jamaica, now of Netherhouses [Edinburgh] in 1742.
"Alexander Edgar [junior] matriculated at the University in 1787. He was born in Hamilton, the eldest son of Alexander of Martha Brae, Jamaica. Edgar was a planter in Trelawny, Cornwall, Jamaica."
