MP and London merchant and banker, making his fortune in India, but with James Law the recipient of a £15,000 Exchequer Loan in 1797 as part of the programme of support for the 'planters and merchants' of Grenada and St Vincent. In his will he indicated that his property could have been worth £230,000.
