Biography

Beneficiary of an annuity of £50 p.a. purchased in 1774 by John Aylett Stow (q.v.) from John Abel Ward (q.v.) secured on the latter's property including enslaved people on Nevis. In his will made in 1776 (proved in 1781), Stow said that Ann Cowley nee Hawker was entitled to half the annuity on the joint lives of her and Mary Steward, and to the whole if she was the survivor. In the event, she appears to have died in 1780.
