???? - 1761
Slave-owner on St Kitts, living as an absentee at Greenwich at his death. Samuel Baker's map of 1753 shows his estate in the north of St Peter Basseterre, on the boundary with St Mary Cayonne [sic].
Will of Richard Rowland [late of the island of St Christopher and now] of Greenwich Kent proved 03/07/1761. He left his wife Ann an annuity of £400 p.a. and further £100 p.a. for horse-hire and the expense of maintaining a coach, to be reduced to £100 p.a. if she remarried. He also left her 'one negro woman called Asalanto and her four children and also one other negro woman named Rose.' He left his wife's son Patrick Ogilvie £250 and to Patrick Ogilvie and his sister Ann Ogilvie he left all the proceeds from the sale of their father's estate in the 'island of Isequebo [sic]'. He left in trust all his half of a plantation in St Peter which he purchased of Dr George Irwin and Susannah his wife, together with land at Basseterre and the other moiety of the St Peter plantation which he said had belonged to his late wife Margaret which was formerly the entire estate of Thomas Bridgewater, and he entailed the property to Margaret and her heirs with contingent remainder to Patrick Ogilvie. He freed his 'negro man' Anthony and left him £12, providing further that if Anthony chose to return to St Kitts within 12 months of Richard Rowland's death, his executors would pay Anthony's passage. He specified that none of his sugars should be carried out of convoy during wartime, and that each year 24 hogshead of 'boaks' and fifty of herring should be shipped from Ireland or forty of herring from Scotland and 250 yards of negro clothing.
Margaret Rowland of Greenwich Kent married David Bayford at St George Hanover 13/08/1767.
