Sources

William Pettigrew, Freedom's Debt p. 50. LBS has not yet examined the records of a Chancery suit, Hodges v Hales, of 1723, C 11/1433/30: 'Thomas Hodges junior, esq (son and heir of Thomas Hodges, esq of St Giles Bloomsbury, Middlesex) and Mary Hodges his wife (late Mary Hallett, only child of Hon. Colonel John Hallett, esq deceased, late of Isle of Barbados, West Indies and Sarah Hallett his wife, since married to Robert Hales, esq.) said Mary Hodges is an infant (by her said husband).' It would appear that Mary Hodges nee Hallett was the daughter of John Hallett (d. c. 1716), the son of Col. John Hallett (d. c. 1699) - the will of John Hallett 'of St Nicholas' [in fact St Michael] d. c. 1716 was proved in London in 1722, and identifies his daughter as Mary (it is silent on his wife).
