William Pitter

William Pitter (1765-1817), son of Thomas and Ann Pitter (née Wheatle), was born and baptised in London in November 1765. His mother’s brother was Thomas Wheatle. William Pitter married Juliana Wisdom Morgan (née James) in Trelawny, Jamaica, in 1793. He was active in the local state and in the militia: he was an Assistant Judge in the Court of Common Pleas, Trelawny, in 1796; Clerk of Vestry in St Elizabeth in 1802 and 1806; Captain, then Lt. Colonel, Regiment of Foot, in St Elizabeth in 1802 and 1808. William Pitter was a property owner and enslaver. He owned about fifty enslaved people on the Abingdon Estate (Vere/St Elizabeth/Manchester), between 1811-1818. No existing records pertaining to Pitter have been identified after 1817-18.
