1792 - 1866
Probably, but not certainly for all these awards, Joseph Lyder Briggs of Barbados, father of Sir Thomas Graham Briggs. Joseph Lyder Briggs married Elizabeth nee Hinds, widow of John Abel Jackman, in 1833: the award to Joseph Briggs for Mount Prospect estate shows him as trustee of John A. Jackman. The other awards grouped under his name here identify him only as Joseph Briggs (including the award for Maynards, which was certainly associated with the family of Joseph Lyder Briggs). Kathleen Mary Butler traced Joseph Lyder Briggs' ownership of Checker Hall, Maynards and The Fortress and his subsequent purchase of further estates in the 1830s.
If this is Joseph Lyder Briggs, then 'of Briggs, Maynards, and Farley Hill Barbados, J. P. Col. of the St. Lucy reg't of militia, b. 7, July 1792, m. 1832, Elizabeth dau. of Benjamin Hinds, esq. of Hindsbury Treasurer of Barbados, and widow of John Abel Jackman, esq. of Rockless, and d. 17 Sept, 1866, leaving an only child, the present Sir Thomas Graham Briggs, Bar't.'
