1799 - 1861
Liverpool merchant. Possibly trustee or executor for William Walkinshaw, whose widow Sarah Anne Walkinshaw (q.v.) corresponded with the Compensation Commissioners in 1837.
Fiat in bankruptcy awarded against Edward Walkinshaw of Liverpool merchant 16/12/1833.
In 1851 Edward Walkinshaw West India merchant aged 52 was living at 11 Huskisson Street with his wife Mary also 52, both born Scotland, and their children Andrew 20 (apprentice to a cotton broker) and Eliza 14. Possibly the Edward Walkinshaw whose death was registered Q1 1861 in Flint and for whose estate administration was granted 30/03/1871 to his widow Mary of Maesydderwen Mold, when he was described as formerly of Glasgow but late of Mold Flintshire who died at Mold 21/02/1861, effects under £20.
Edward Walkinshaw merchant in Glasgow and Mary Crombie residing in Edinburgh married 31st July by Mr. Henry Gray Minister of St Cuthbert's, Edinburgh. They had at least two children born in Scotland (John born 05/09/1822 and Edward born 02/09/1827) and at least 3 children born in Liverpool (Charles Edward born 06/05/1834, Eliza Hester born 14/06/1836 and William born 12/03/1838).
In 1825, William Walkinshaw registered two 'personal slaves', the property of his wife Mrs Sarah Walkinshaw.
There is some evidence to suggest that William and Edward Walkinshaw were the sons of John Walkinshaw and Mary Nicol, born 01/11/1794 and 02/05/1798 in Glasgow. In her will of 1827, Mary Walkinshaw née Nicol left all her property to her son Robert and after Robert's death to John (the son of her son Edward) and Mary (the daughter of her son William). The eldest child of William Walkinshaw of Trinidad was called Mary and the eldest child of Edward was called John.
